Aries
Sun in Aries
ARIES: FIREWORKS, THE EXPLORER
KEY WORDS: IMPATIENCE, ENTHUSIASM, THE SELF
ELEMENT: FIRE
Look closely and you will see a blaze of fire in the Aries native eyes as their thoughts constantly ignite new ideas and desires. Aries fire initiates Spring as the Vernal Equinox. In the western hemisphere we feel the energies of life coming back into view. Things begin to turn green; what appeared to be dead or dormant suddenly bursts with new shoots and buds.
Aries are the explorers and brave seekers of our world. Their fire is like a burst of energy that ignites the sky like fireworks. But just as quickly it burns out and loses its energy to complete the task. Their fire is more about the idea of something new to see or do. Aries individuals love to inspire us with new ideas. Enthusiasm is a natural state for them and they will happily venture into new territory leading the way for others to follow, all the while getting ready for another new adventure before the one they are on is complete!
They have a fast forward energy. Moving slow or stepping back is almost a non-existent idea for them. They are represented by the Ram, horns poised and ready to butt any opponent out of the competition. Aries are very competitive by nature and love a good challenge. Boredom is their worst enemy and if it shows up even for a few minutes they will become restless and irritable quickly.
Aries is the first sign of the natural zodiac and they like being first. They are known for their singular attitude and have many lessons to learn about both the negative and positive attributes of being self focused.
Aries rule the head and sometimes move head first into things before thinking about consequences. Of course this same feature lets them be brave and courageous about exploring uncharted territory. They represent the beginning of our human consciousness that comes through thoughts or inspired ideas and then become actions. I think; therefore, I am.
Their power can be untamed and they eventually need to understand how the destructive force of fire can be channeled into something that creates positive change. Learning to balance and maintain their energy to finish what they start is another important realization for them.
A quick temper can cause them regrets early in life, but most are also quick to forgive others. Their playful fire will warm your heart and you’ll find it very hard to resist their seductive invitation to join them on one of their many adventures.
Certainly you will never experience a dull moment around an Aries, however you may sometimes wish for one!
Taurus
Sun in Taurus
TAURUS: PLANET EARTH, THE GARDENER
KEY WORDS: LOVE, SELF-WORTH, DESIRE, SUSTAINABILITY, MATERIAL POSSESSIONS
ELEMENT: EARTH
Beautiful Taurus, moving slowly through your day, you savor every scent and feel every soft petal, warm fur and sweet taste in the world. You teach us to appreciate the physical world that was created from spirit for us to enjoy. The other eleven signs are busy with the business of doing, while you sit quietly under a tree contemplating the beauty nature provides. Taurus is an earth sign. It’s the kind of earth we plant our flowers and vegetables in: rich, dark soil, full of nutrients and ready to support growth.
Taurians are known for their ability to support others and to create supportive structures that nurture others. Just like the rich, dark earth that describes their element, they move about quietly and intentionally. Earth never moves too quickly, it has the most form to its matter and if it is pushed we experience an earthquake! Taurus does not like to be pushed. It takes quite a lot to make a Taurus lose their temper but if they do, they release a powerful force that will cause everyone around them to feel the quake. Once this occurs, Taurus will need ample time to forgive and recover their calm.
Taurus is the gardener of the zodiac. They love to see things grow and will have great patience in allowing others to develop. They help us remember that the physical world is full of delightful treasures if we would just slow down and smell the roses - literally!
Taurus does need to learn that too much of a good thing can have repercussions. If we eat too many sweet, rich foods we can become overweight and slow down even more. Taurus must learn when to move, still at their own pace, but they must not get bogged down in the physical, getting stuck in routines or holding onto objects or people that no longer hold value in their life.
Taurus is the sign of worth and value. They rule money and banks, they take ownership very seriously. This causes many to write about Taurus as possessive; truly it is about the worth and value Taurus feels about something or someone. It is one of the most difficult lessons they must learn. Everything in the physical will one day turn to dust. The real value is in the love we feel for something or someone, that is infinite and will never die.
Their polar opposite, Scorpio understands this better than any other sign and it helps Taurus if they expand into the understanding that death and birth cycles are simply energy that needs to be flowing. For something to be born, something must die to allow the energy to recreate itself. Taurus teaches us to value the physical and learns that the physical is really spirit flowing into form and its value is held in the energy not the form itself.
Taurus is sometimes slow to mature compared to other signs, but they come into awareness very steadily. One foot in front of another is their way. Once they arrive at something their commitment is tangible and their ability to outlast just about anyone is remarkable. But just because you can does not mean you should. Letting go is also a strength.
Taurians can be very funny people; they love to make others laugh because they understand the value of joy and fun. Once you’re around a Taurus you will feel so embraced you’ll find yourself wanting more of that wonderful warm joy they are so good at giving out.
Possessive? Nah. Seductive, oh yeah.
Gemini
Sun in Gemini
GEMINI: OXYGEN, THE STORYTELLER
KEY WORDS: INTELLECT, COMMUNICATION, CURIOSITY, YOUTHFULNESS, MOVEMENT
ELEMENT: AIR
Like a crisp spring breeze, Gemini’s sweep into a room and bring a fresh energy to everyone. I call them Oxygen because everyone seems to come alive and feel more awake when there’s a Gemini around.
This air sign is depicted by the Twins Castor and Pollex. But I’ve always looked at another kind of representation for Gemini and that’s Narcissus, the famed hunter from Greek mythology. He was known for his beauty and when he sees his reflection in a pool of water he falls in love with his own beauty.
Now, Gemini’s are not in love with themselves, but they have an uncanny ability to reflect other’s behavior, tone of voice, body language and even facial expression. It makes whomever they are speaking with feel very good without them realizing why. When we see ourselves reflected we have a sense of familiarity and feel more at ease. For this reason Gemini’s make great sales people. They are also wonderful writers, speakers and performers.
The other part of Narcissus that Gemini often typifies is beauty. Gemini’s are perpetually young. They tend to keep the beauty of youth. Even in later years when everyone else seems to be growing old, Gemini is still walking with a spring in their step and a twinkle in their mischievous eye.
Now this same ability to be able to reflect other’s personalities causes Gemini to be called indecisive. Really they are not. Most of us have a total integration of our personality traits. The happy me, the sad me, the quiet me, the enthusiastic me - are all integrated when I make a decision. Gemini’s have a buffer up that makes their personality traits act as individual parts that all have an opinion. So the happy me argues with the sad me, “I want to wear the red shirt.” says Happy. “I want the blue shirt.” says Sad. This can go on forever until somebody wins. So Gemini is not really a twin or duel energy - Pisces holds that trophy - but more of a multi-personality energy. They have to have a board meeting every time they need to do something!
What I tell Gemini’s is to pick a part of yourself every morning and put that personality trait in charge; tell all the other parts they must listen to that self today. It works!
Gemini is the sign of communication and communicating is a necessary activity for their well being. I always say if you are friends with a Gemini, when they call you, answer the phone and just give an “uh-huh” once in a while. You can put down the phone and go do chores, check email, take a bath, and every now and then just utter “oh, uh-huh” and in about an hour or two the Gemini will say, “Thanks for listening, you always help me figure things out!”
Gemini needs to have that reflection of hearing their own voice speak the words and then they can figure out any problem. I always suggest they journal. Writing is a wonderful tool for them because as they read back their words it helps them make sense of the world.
Air must move and Gemini’s are always on the move and love working with their hands, which they rule. So projects that allow them movement and creativity with their hands is the best direction for them to take in life. If they try to sit still you’ll see someone constantly on the phone swiveling back and forth in their chair. It’s best for them to be on the move.
Gemini will make the hem of your skirt fly up a bit whenever they’re around but you’ll find yourself laughing and wondering what will be coming next from this unpredictable, delightful story teller. Anyone else and we’d raise an eyebrow or two and question the story, but Gemini will be so animated and amusing that we’ll be hoping it’s a long story. And it will be.
Always invite a Gemini to your dinner party, everyone will have a great time and you will be free to enjoy your own party!
Tinkerbell was a Gemini, if you clap your hands they will get brighter. If you look closely you might see their fairy wings hiding inside their shirt!
Cancer
Sun in Cancer
CANCER: THE OCEANS, THE PSYCHIC, THE BIRTH MOTHER
KEY WORDS: NUTURING, SECURITY, THE PAST, INTUITIVE, EMOTIONS
ELEMENT: WATER
Cancers are great mothers that nurture everyone. They know instinctually what each person needs and seem to have an abundant energy to nourish others constantly. They are very psychic and read other’s energy. If you’re feeling sad they know it and will gently ask you what’s wrong. They will offer you their chair and rub your shoulders as you begin to tell them what is bothering you. Soon you’re feeling much better and so are they. You see, they love to give. Those big claws can hold much more than our ordinary hands.
Yet, try and give back to them. Try to give them a gift or love and you will find it difficult to get their huge claws open to receive. Eventually they will have to learn that really, they do have human hands and we have two for a reason: one to give and one to receive. Nature needs us to receive and give so we keep the flow going. Cancer’s find this very difficult. Cancer’s are a water sign and I see them as the true oceans and seas that provide so much nourishment for us. Water absorbs and cleanses energy. The Cancer water is always in jeopardy of absorbing too much negative energy around them and then we say they are crabby and moody.
I do not believe Cancer’s are moody at all. They simply feel the emotion all around them and unconsciously draw it to them to heal it. They will eventually learn that taking on other’s pain helps no one and we must let others have their pain. No one can heal our pain for us and we have it to help us learn. Pain is usually resistance about something. Cancer’s have resistance to receiving and letting others have their chosen path of difficulty and challenges.
Cancers are natural healers in our world. It’s not unusual for them to have many intuitive talents: psychic ability, medical intuition, animal communication, channeling ability and much more. This is because they represent the emotional body and can connect with the emotional body of just about anyone or anything. Anything being an antique chair or heirloom. They love antiques because they can feel the story or history that it holds! When they are around antiques they pick up the emotional energy the chair experienced. It’s quite the talent.
Cancer’s represent the past; history. They help us understand why the past teaches us lessons, what not to repeat. George Santayana, the great Spanish poet and philosopher said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” But eventually we must move on. “If we live in the past we have no future” a quote from yours truly!
Cancers do best when they practice lots of energy work. Cleanse your energy every morning, ground your energy and put a bubble around yourself. Bubbles like the ones little kids blow through a wand; they are iridescent and wobbly. Once inside your bubble other’s energy slips around your bubble but cannot penetrate it. Your energy is for you; everyone has an abundant supply. Giving your energy to others is very enabling and doesn’t help them, it only temporarily makes them feel better.
Cancers are in every line of work you can imagine, they do very well to work with animals, social work, and are often amazing chefs. They love to cook, unless you’re the type of crab that doesn’t even have a kitchen. Yes, they seem to run an extreme spectrum when it comes to cooking. But this goes back to that issue about receiving. If you don’t have a kitchen guess who you most often don’t feed? This is an exception not a rule with Cancers. Most will have a well stocked kitchen that is filled with boxes of stuff they bought but never used. Everywhere you look you will probably find things that are literally ancient. They have a hard time letting go of the past therefore they tend to collect all kinds of things.
It’s not so much possessions like Taurus might have, but more about the story it tells. “I bought that when I was in Sedona.” Now the object is alive for them because it holds a memory. The Native American saying about the past is this, “Take only memories, leave only footprints.”
Cancers are so loving and warm, they love to love but must learn to let others love and nurture them. Once you’ve been to a Cancer’s home you’ll want to go back for more: more love, comfort, and certainly more food. Invite them over once in a while, have them sit with your cat for a little chat while you get dinner on the table and at evenings end do not let them clean up your kitchen.
Let them know how much joy it gives you to return the love. You will help their evolvement and balance the Karmic Universe in ways you may never comprehend. Let’s just say somewhere an angel earned their wings. I can hear the bells ringing!
Leo
Sun in Leo
LEO: THE SUN, THE KING AND QUEEN
KEY WORDS: PRIDE, GENEROUSITY, LEADERSHIP, DRAMA
ELEMENT: FIRE
Leo is a fire element that is ruled by the Sun. It’s the only sign that is not ruled by a planet but by the most powerful star, our Sun, the giver of life on our planet. If you think that sounds dramatic, you now understand Leo! They have flare, just like the Sun. I love to watch how a Leo dresses down; they’ll wear a million dollars worth of diamonds with a matching velour jogging suit. Sunglasses were invented for Leo’s for those rare occasions when they need to go out incognito and didn’t have time to put on their makeup. They have to shine and they love to be center stage. Fun is their middle name and if they are not having fun they will somehow create it. Leo is like the Sun, it cannot lower its energy. It must be all that it is and its constant fire has an endless source that feeds it. The Sun does not look down at the Earth and say, “Gee, I’m burning those people, I should turn it down a bit.” It must be what it is and it provides the essential source that allows our planet and all its inhabitants to survive and flourish. Leo is this energy, endless in its ability to create from an unseen source. It just can’t be small or do something halfway, so it can seem to some to be ego. You will often see this word associated with Leo but I‘ve rarely seen Leo energy be egotistical; it simply shines so powerfully that it can burn those around them. Sometimes being in the spotlight all the time creates an insecurity that they respond to with that Leo pride.
It’s hard not to notice the Sun; even if you’re not looking up, you know it’s there. When a Leo is in the room, you know it. They can be loud and dramatic and they can also be shy and quiet, like the Sun behind the clouds, but you’ll somehow still notice them. Leo’s have a fear of being embarrassed or humiliated; in some it can create a serious shyness, while in others it may cause them to seem egotistical and they will pretend not care what others think. Either way, it can cause a misunderstanding of their sensitivities that others simply do not experience nor do they understand. The sign of Leo is the energy of the King and Queen. The sign is represented by the lion, and what do we call the lion? The King of the Jungle and their domain is called a pride!
Leo rules the heart and the spine. The heart has the strongest measurable energy output in the body, the spine protects the largest nerve, the spinal cord. If you think about a King or Queen, they must rule from the heart and be strong, have a strong spine so to speak. When you sit on a throne you sit higher up than others. They also must maintain a persona for the people. It’s not always easy to have to sit on that throne; even if they’re having a bad day, they can’t show it. Everyone is looking to them to be strong. Leo realizes that they must create a persona, a good appearance, show strength and be dignified.
Leo is also about actors and drama, artist and musicians, mainly because of their ability to create and also because they are most comfortable in the spotlight. They all have a persona on stage, in their personal life they need to be able to be free and let down their hair, step out of the spot light. Ever see a picture of a movie star walking the red carpet, they’re dressed and made up to be dazzling and then the next day there’s a picture of them at the grocery store and you can’t believe it’s the same person? The one at the grocery store looks just like everybody else! What happened to the movie star? How hard is it for that person to keep up appearances every time they go out of the house? Leo feels like this all the time. That invisible spotlight is always on them or at least it feels that way to them. Creating a persona is a way to protect the vulnerable human side. Leo energy has concerns about being humiliated; they have to keep up a good front so no one see’s how vulnerable they are. Because they rule the heart they hurt like no other sign, they take everything to heart and it’s so hard for them to heal feelings of embarrassment and shame.
This is a sensitive sign, one that gives generously, and must create: constantly and infinitely.
Virgo
Sun in Virgo
VIRGO: SAND, THE PRIESTESS, THE RESEARCHER
KEY WORDS: PURITY, ANAYLYSIS, MICROSCOPIC VISION, HEALTH
ELEMENT: EARTH
Virgo is the energy of purity, nature and order. Virgo is an earth sign, but it is more like sand than the wet dark earth we tend to think of when we think of earth. Virgos are mutable, and like sand, constantly shifting, needing to move and change frequently, they can become bored very easily and need to have many intellectual or physical projects to channel their energy.
Virgo is very good at purifying, which essentially is analyzing what is useful and what is not. They are often depicted as being critical and detailed obsessed but really they’re following their unique design to put things in order and clean up or purify. Virgo is one of only three signs that is symbolized by a human figure rather than an animal. The other signs with human symbols are Gemini and Aquarius. Consider how these three signs embody some form of intellect. Gemini is all about speaking and writing, Aquarius is wisdom, genius, and Virgo is about analysis, methodology and critical thinking.
Virgo teaches us about health, how nature holds the key to our healing. Things like homeopathy, vegetarian diets, macrobiotics and holistic practices resonate with Virgo. They like everything to come in its purest form. Including people!
Virgo’s learn the lesson of missing the forest for the tree. Details are important but you have to step back and see the bigger picture. This often is the cause of irritation in relationships for them. They begin to examine and analyze the other person. They put them under the microscope metaphorically. To the Virgo they are simply trying to help you but because they are focused on details they don’t realize when someone does not want their help or opinion.
Many astrological writings will use the term perfection to describe the Virgo personality but I see the natural instinct they have to purify.
Virgo’s have an astonishing eye for detail; it is both a blessing and a curse. Can you imagine what it must be like to always notice the stray thread hanging off someone’s hem or the speck of dirt on someone’s shoe? For them it’s hard to ignore and even harder not to do something about it, their need to “purify” is very strong.
Their polar opposite is Pisces, the sign of the ethereal realm, the really big picture, and the cosmos. Virgo’s see the grain of sand under the microscope, examining each and every facet; Pisces see the whole Earth from outer space and only see its beautiful colors. Virgo and Pisces are both learning to balance their vision, one is too realistic and the other too unrealistic. Is the glass half full or half empty? Sometimes it’s a glass of water with just the right amount!
Libra
Sun in Libra
LIBRA: BREATH, BALANCED AIR, THE TIGHTROPE WALKER, THE AMBASSADOR
KEY WORDS: BALANCE, BEAUTY, GRACE, PEACE, INFINITE PATIENCE
ELEMENT: AIR
Take a deep breath; release it slowly. Now another, gently allow the air to empty from your lungs and feel the day’s stress melt away as your shoulders drop and your body relaxes. That’s the essence of Libra. Do you think you could feel anxious or angry after taking those breaths? Libra’s breathe through life, seeking beauty and peaceful settings. They are very sensitive to life becoming out of balance, so when Libra’s step out of their beautiful home and into the world of the other eleven signs they encounter what feels like, to them, a very out of balance world full of chaos and disharmony. It makes them want to turn around and go back into their peaceful and tranquil space. But this is where Libra has to become the tightrope walker and constantly stop and rebalance their energy. They do not like anything harsh or ugly. This is the sign of beauty, art, diplomacy, love and marriage.
They are not indecisive as some astrology books like to describe them. They simply need to be in a state of balance to make a decision or move forward and for them staying in balance is a constant challenge. They can also have challenges with relationships because they require us to balance our energy with another. This is very difficult for a Libra; once they get their life into a state of balance they become very resistant to changing it and disrupting that balance. They will avoid arguments and any type of confrontation. They are truly peacemakers, which is why they make such good diplomats. Because of their ability to create balance they can mediate just about anything, always seeing both sides of the story.
Libra time is different than the usual clock most of us use as the structure of what fills up our day. They need lots of time to wake up, at least an hour before starting to dress. They just need to sit and allow their bodies to slowly awaken, cell by cell. They need lots of time to sleep, at least nine hours; twelve works better on some days. Work? Well yes, they work. But first they stop for a danish and chat with the girl behind the counter about her earrings. When they get into the office they need to stop by the bathroom and comb their hair and wash their hands. By time they get to their desk they need to check email, maybe get a cup of coffee, stop and ask about today’s meeting and how long it will take because they were planning to leave a bit early for a facial. They will get things done, they simply need more time and because they are so naturally social and charming, people tend to offer help which the Libra will gratefully accept!
Libra’s teach us the importance of beauty, art and keeping our life balanced. They have to learn about relationships and making changes even when they don’t feel in perfect balance or they will miss opportunities in life. Their symbol, the scales, are always moving through balance but not staying in balance.
Scorpio
Sun in Scorpio
SCORPIO: THE WIZARD, LAVA
KEY WORDS: INTENSE, INTUITIVE/SENSITIVE, FERTILITY, ENEGMATIC
ELEMENT: WATER
The eighth sign of the zodiac is represented by a Scorpion. A unique and mysterious creature, it does not seem to have eyes or even a face; instead we see large pincers and the powerful stinger. This is symbolic of how Scorpio does not let many “see” them; they put up an energetic, and in most cases unconscious, defense because of their sensitive nature. Many astrologers believe that birds of prey like eagles and hawks are also a symbol for this powerful sign because of their extraordinary vision and ability to reach extreme heights. In some native beliefs eagles and hawks are thought to fly to the edge of a higher dimension and bring us visions from spirit. Scorpios stay very aware of the spiritual realm and because of that often question the value of the physical world by comparison. This is their lesson: to come to understand that the physical is spiritual and is equally as valuable. Scorpios help us remember that we are spiritual beings having a human experience and that death is a part of the experience.
I feel there are many different ways the intensity of this sign expresses. Regardless of whether you’re dealing with a steadfast Eagle or a mysterious Scorpion, one thing is for sure this is the most powerful of the twelve Zodiac signs and they experience life on planet Earth in the most intense ways. Life for them is never lukewarm; it’s intensely hot or cold.
Scorpion energy is really the energy of death and rebirth cycles. These cycles happen constantly in our life. We have the death of an old job before going to the new job. Relationships die, ideas die, people die and in their place something or someone new is born. Scorpio teaches us that nothing really dies; it just changes shape and form. And without death birth cannot occur.
Scorpios are very sensitive people. They are also naturally intuitive and can have unique abilities to work with healing energy. While it is considered a water sign, I see Scorpio as lava: an intense hot liquid that erupts from the Earth’s core, the deepest part of the Earth where no living creature can go. Most Scorpios need to have alone time to recharge their energy, being around others can be taxing at times. Their sensitivity to another’s energy works well if they are helping others heal but in day to day affairs it can feel invasive. They have X-ray vision, they can see through any façade we might have and most of us do have some kind of façade. Scorpios can spend quite a bit of time alone rather than be with someone who is not being completely honest with themselves and the world. When it comes to being with a Scorpio, the worst truth is always better than the best lie. Forgiveness is something all Scorpio natures must develop and is probably the most important experience for them to discover.
Sagittarius
Sun in Sagittarius
SAGITTARIUS: THE SHAMAN, THE SOUL, CANDLELIGHT
KEY WORDS: WISDOM, TRUTH, FREEDOM,THE TRIBAL DANCER
ELEMENT: FIRE
Sagittarius, our final fire sign, is half man and half horse, a Centaur shooting the arrows of truth into the sky. The symbolism is about how Sagittarius brings the sacred messages from spirit to our humanness. In many ancient beliefs the horse is a messenger from the spirit world. Fire represents spirit or inspiration, Aries is fire of the mind and Leo, fire of the heart. Sagittarius is fire of the soul.
Sagittarius is about all the ways we are inspired by our soul; the ancient books of wisdom that our societies rely on for guidance, the Shamans that bring us the wisdom and messages of spirit.
This ninth sign shows us the freedom and spiritual expansion we develop through wisdom and truth. They are perpetual students and love to share wisdom and are natural teachers. Their love of freedom has made them one of the most commonly unmarried signs of the Zodiac. They see boundaries as a starting point. They are very committed in relationships but need to have open boundaries in them. A marriage is a signed contract that provides rules and boundaries in our society, the minute the Sag feels that fenced in sensation something in them wants to break free.
Sagittarius is also about venturing into life very far from where and who we are; it is the sign of foreign travel and foreigners. Travel to a Sag is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. They explore the world without judgment, observing new and different ways cultures live. Sagittarians can be very good at learning foreign languages and also teaching us about philosophy and religions.
Their polar opposite, Gemini, are very talkative; Sagittarians can be talkative if they have something to share that they feel is important otherwise they can be very quiet. Quiet time and meditation come very naturally to them and is important for them to have on a daily basis. Dance, Yoga, Tai Chi, are good for them because they are all associated with spiritual practices from ancient cultures.
The most important characteristic of Sagittarius is truth, they are ultimately seekers of the truth and this is why they are constantly searching through the wisdom of the ages. Being truthful with them and allowing them to speak their truth is at the core of their being. However, as with all signs, we have both sides of the coin, when you encounter a Sagittarius that lies, and thankfully it is rare, they will be the best pathological liar you will ever meet.
Sagittarians help us understand the world that is different from our own culture and show us the beauty in diversity. They must learn how boundaries in the physical world help us from going too far and overdoing it!
Capricorn
Sun in Capricorn
CAPRICORN: THE MOUNTAINS, THE JUDGE, THE TIMEKEEPER
KEY WORDS: JUDGEMENT, AUTHORITY, ACHEIVEMENT, ENDURANCE
ELEMENT: EARTH
The final earth sign of the year, I liken the Capricorn earth to be like the solid rock that forms our mountains. Slowly they rose into the sky, you can almost see them competing with one another to be the highest peak. Capricorns are very solid people; loyal, hard workers, very grounded. They are also very stubborn; Taurus gets the name but Capricorn play the stubborn game. Like the rock they represent, you cannot move them, until they’re ready and it can take years of evaluation before they decide to make a change. Time is an important factor to them, and like their ruler, Saturn, they keep time for us. If they have spent many years with someone or doing something it’s hard for them to see the logic in changing, they consider the amount of time invested. If they were to buy a couch one of the considerations would be, “How long will this couch last?”
However, their most unique feature is the fact that they are born old and grow young! We should all take a turn as a Capricorn, they get it right. After being so serious and working hard to build their empire, around their early 50’s they begin to enjoy life. They don’t have a mid-life crisis they have a mid-life awakening. I love how New Year’s occurs during Capricorn and Old Father time limps out and Baby New Year crawls in, it’s such a perfect symbol for Capricorn.
Their polar opposite, Cancer, loves being home and taking care of pets and children. Cancers rely on their intuition and Capricorns love rules and logic. Capricorns love to be at work and often feel they are building an empire for the family, but most love to be out and working where they can feel accomplished. Capricorns find work therapeutic, it’s what they understand. Their lessons will be around learning the difference between the two and eventually understanding why paying attention to the little things in life are so valuable. Capricorns are very attracted to power, the appreciate authority and like Nixon, sometimes misuse it. They are considered the Judges of the Zodiac and are usually very fair in how they judge others; it’s what they teach us: how to use good judgement.
Aquarius
Sun in Aquarius
AQUARIUS: THE THUNDERSTORM, THE TIME TRAVELER
KEY WORDS: CHANGE, REVOLUTION, THE FUTURE, GENIUS
ELEMENT: AIR
Aquarius is often mistaken for a water sign since its symbol is the man or god in the heavens pouring out streams from a jar. What he’s pouring out onto humanity is wisdom. Aquarius is an air sign, and air represents intellect and thought. This is one of only three zodiac signs represented by a human and not an animal; the other two are Gemini and Virgo. Libra sometimes includes a woman holding scales but the sign of Libra is symbolized by scales.
Aquarius air is like a thunderstorm: powerful air charged with energy. The glyph used for Aquarius is energy waves and like a thunderstorm we feel their presence when they enter the room. Aquarians have a unique nature. They are not affected emotionally by what others think and they like to be different. Unusual is a word that is often used to describe them. They are the sign of the genius and Aquarius is associated with inventions and original ideas that help move us into the future. They are also humanitarians and can be very drawn to work with non-profits and organizations that globally reform and help others.
The challenge Aquarians face is with intimacy and personal relationships. It seems easy for them to care for the nameless faces, the communities in third world countries that suffer from hunger and illness. In their personal relationships they feel more comfortable to have friendship be the dominant relationship, even with significant others and children. If their personal relationships become too emotional the Aquarius tries to rely on intellect to resolve conflict.
Their opposite sign is Leo, the great creator: the artist, actor, and king. Aquarius is the creator with the whole: the community, the non-profit, the revolution. Aquarians are here to move us into the future and many of them have gone forward in time rather than from the past in lifetimes. They’ve seen the great inventions and learned how we resolve environmental issues and become more global. When they come back to an earlier time they awaken those memories and help us actualize them.
Aquarians often feel like they don’t fit into society and its rules. Their rebellious nature is shaped by a strong independent spirit that is innately unconventional.
Pisces
Sun in Pisces
PISCES: THE CLOUDS, THE MYSTIC, THE SAINT
KEY WORDS: LUMINESANT, SPIRIT, FANTASY, VISION
ELEMENT: WATER
Oh you beautiful mermaids and mermen! Will the human world ever understand your song? You sing of the visions you see while swimming in your dreams with the Angels!
Pisces is the twelfth sign of the Zodiac, they are the visionaries and illuminators of our world; they bring us light. Pisces is the ruler of our dreams and all the things we associate with dreaming. Its animal symbol is two fish, swimming in a circle as if to try to catch each other. The fish symbolize man’s two primary conscious states: lower consciousness or the “thinking” mind and higher consciousness or the “God/Universe mind”. Consider the thinking mind as the one you use every day; it learns to drive, read, and play card games. The God/Universe mind is intuitive and draws on wisdom. Pisces is here to teach us to connect or merge these two minds, but first they show us, by example, what it is to have them be in constant conflict.
Pisces is a water sign, but I consider it more like a cloud or bubbles in champagne, floating water! Pisces is always floating upward toward the God/Universe mind. There it finds itself “high”, blissfully feeling the ecstasy of unconditional love. Suddenly the earthly realm calls to them and they feel like they are slammed into their bodies to experience the unpleasant, conditional love of the physical world. Where would you rather be? The lesson is, we never really leave the spirit realm, we learn to draw it down into the physical realm consciously and raise the vibration by experiencing unconditional love here. Isn’t this the message of the mystics and saints?
Pisces represents spirituality actualized through consciousness. Once they learn to ground themselves and draw the spiritual energy to themselves, they then teach this to us. Pisces has a wide spectrum: it represents drug addicts, narcotics, addictions, and thieves, as well as mystics, saints, dreams, psychic visions and anesthesia.
Pisces are known for their ability to “walk a mile in someone’s shoes” as they are very empathic. They must guard against being sympathetic by taking on others feelings and problems.
Their ability to be “out of body” sometimes gets them labeled airheaded. One thing is sure about them, they may seem easy going and passive, but this is their super power; like a cloud they will float around any situation, just try catching a cloud sometime! They are actually very powerful because they have integrated all the lessons of the other eleven signs into their experience and now must master the final state of conscious awareness or awakening.
